about.

kō-zē wine room is a recent addition to the vibrant Village of Glen Ellyn. We offer an extensive wine list, cocktails, craft beer, seltzer, specialty sodas, and small food plates.

After undergoing an extensive historical renovation, we have brought the 1920s space back to life. The history of the building and the stories of our winemakers inspired the look of the revival.

The space is infused with locally sourced antiques, artwork, and florals to create a genuinely "kō-zē" atmosphere.

the story behind our space.

On this site in 1887, the Boyd Brothers, Robert and John, constructed a one-story building for their hardware business. Originally, there was no building directly to the south of the Boyd Building due to a creek that once crossed under main street (running east to west) at that location.

In November of 1891 a devastating fire swept through the Glen Ellyn business district, destroying nearly all the buildings along the west side of Main Street between Crescent Boulevard and Pennsylvania Avenue.

Shortly after the fire, the Boyd Brother’s constructed this current two-story commercial block to replace their one-story building.

Later, this area became known as the Frederick G. Walker Block at 482-484 North Main Street which was originally erected in the 1890s and remodeled in the Renaissance Revival style in 1927 by architectural firm Walker and Angell.

Walker would go on to be appointed as head of the Glen Ellyn Zoning Board of Appeals in August, 1931.

The Renaissance Revival façade remains today, with its tiled front roof and ogee arch center entry to the second story flanked by two storefronts, one now becoming kō-zē wine room.

Early years have identified the following businesses:

  • Boyd Brother’s Hardware Store (circa 1880s/1890s)

  • Alfred R. Utt Drug (Pharmacy), Ice Cream, Soda Fountain Store (circa 1900)

  • Heintz Drug & Soda (circa 1920s)

  • Various retail stores throughout many years, including Paul’s Shoe Service next door (still in existence) forging a doorway from their current space into 484 N. Main St. for their Sporting Goods Store in the 1970s.

the story behind
our wines.

It's a priority for us to work with small production wineries while showcasing natural and organic wines and select local craft beers.

We're excited to partner with winemakers and brewers we know personally. Each year we travel to wine regions throughout the world to connect with our winemaking friends and form new relationships. What are we looking for in wines? Some matching amount of the following criteria: family-owned, estate-grown, organic, biodynamically grown, naturally made, great value, rarely known region or varietal, exemplification of a classic region or technique. The most important question? Is it delicious to drink!?

We take every opportunity to support minority, women-owned businesses and people exemplifying sustainable practices.
